FARBENFROH - BEAUTIFUL COLORS

Zu unserem gestrigen Treffen brachten einige ihre Färbeergebnisse mit. At our meeting last night some people showed their products from the dyeing class

Barbaras herrliche Stoffe sind marmorierter als die der anderen Teilnehmer und genau so wollte sie es haben.

GARN FÄRBEN - DYED THREADS

Ich hatte 4 Strang weißes Seidengarn aus Vietnam mitgebracht und habe sie in Farbabstufungen gefärbt.

I brought 4 skeins of silk threads from Vietnam and dyed them in different shades.

Das Grün hat die meisten Abstufungen.

Das Garn ist zu dick für die Nadel, also werde ich es umgekehrt beim Maschinenquilten auf der Spule gebrauchen.
The thread is too thick to go through the needle so I will use it in the bobbin. The technic is called ''mashine bobbin drawing. .

Meine Quiltfreundin aus Chicago Laura Wasilowski hat viel Erfahrung mit selbstgefärbten Garnen, was sie auch in ihren Quilts benutzt.
Laura Wasilowski from Chicago/IL is an expert of hand dyed threads. She also uses them in her own quilts.

FÄRBEWORKSHOP - DYEING CLASS

Stormie(in der Mitte )und Pam(rechts)hatten ihren Spaß.

Stormie (center)and Pam(right) had a lot of fun. Am Wochenende war ich bei der VHS mit meinem Färbeworkshop beschäftigt. Mit 5 Teilnehmerinnen wurde es eine gemütliche Runde, und wir hatten viel Spaß. Am 2. Färbetag hatten wir noch genug Zeit und Material, um andere Textilien zu färben. So konnte jede ca 25 Meter
selbstgefärbtem Stoff mit nach Hause nehmen.
Last weekend I was teaching the dyeing class at the VHS here in Garmisch. It was a small group of 5 people and we had a lot of fun. At the last day there were still enough time and dye left for own experimenting. In the end everybody walked home with at least 25 yards hand dyed fabrics.

Traudi, leider hier ohne Gesicht tschuldigung, war immer wieder erstaunt über die neuen Töne, die aus den Mischungen entstanden.
Traudi, sorry you can't see her nice face, was always surprised about the outcome of the different color combinations.
Barbara, aus Mittenwald, brachte schon etwas Färbeerfahrung mit.

Am letzten Tag färbte Sigrid noch einige Spitzen in verschiedene Farben
At the last day Sigi additionally dyed some pieces of lace in different colors.

NORDVIETNAMESISCHE STÄMME - MINORITIES IN NORTH VIETNAM

Danke für die vielen Mails und Fragen bezüglich meiner Vietnamreise.Ich werde sie alle treu beantworten. Hier nochmal ein paar Fotos von unserer letzten Station im Norden, die so fasziniert durch die dort lebenden ethnischen Minoritäten. Jeder Stamm hat seine eigene Sprache und Trachten.
Thanks for all your mails and questions I received regarding my trip to Vietnam. I will faithfully respond to all of them. I like to share some more photos while we traveled through the North West before we retourned home. Many different tribes live in this part of the country and they all have their own languages and styles of clothes.

In den Höhen der Reisterrassen liegen die Dörfer der Hmongs & der Roten Zaos. Die Reisfelder werden erst in einigen Wochen bepflanzt, darum sind sie jetzt noch braun.

The villages of Hmongs & Daos are situated between rice patties way up in the mountains. The rice will be planted in a few more weeks that's why all fields still appear in different browns. Auch Wasserbüffel werden jetzt noch in den Reisfeldern gehalten.

die Beinbekleidung besteht aus dunkelgefärbtem Tuch, dass man sich um die Beine wickelt und mit einem Band festknotet. Es hält tatsächlich!!

INDIGO findet man hinter den Häusern und bereit fürs nächste Farbbad. Die Pflanzen wachsen in den eigenen Gärten und müssen 3 Tage im Wasser liegen bis die Farbe brauchbar ist. Da die Frauen natürlich keine Gummihandschuhe tragen, haben sie alle leicht blaue Hände.

INDIGO - in many backyards you can find containers ready for the next dye bath. The women grow their own plants, soak them in water for 3 days to get the right intensity. Because they don't wear any rubber gloves they all have colored hands.

und so ist der Prozess : von links: Hanf wird gewebt, meistens blau gefärbt, in Bahnen geschnitten und dann bestickt und verarbeitet.

WORKSHOPERGEBNIS - FINAL PRODUCT

Wenn man auf die Blogeintragung von Oktober 2008 zurück geht, kann man den Anfang dieser Decke in meinem workshop sehen. Nun ist sie fertig und Heidrun ist stolz und glücklich: ''Ne Menge Arbeit ( über 340 Teile) mit viel Spass und edlen Materialien und sieht auf meinem Bett toll aus.'' If you go back to my posting in October 2008 you can see the first designs on the wall during a workshop. Now that the quilt is finished after all this work ( over 340 pieces)Heidrun is proud and satisfied.

Aus diesem Dekorationsbaumwollstoff entstand das gute Stück. Die hellen Ränder und der Hintergrund sind aus Seide. Es wurde handgequilted. This print was used to make the quilt while beige silk was used for borders and background. All stitches are hand quilted.

STICKKUNST- THE ART OF EMBROIDERY

Das ist doch ein Foto oder?? Die Antwort ist nein. Es ist die Stickarbeit einer vietnamesischen Frau. Wie man so etwas machen kann....einfach
hervorragend.
This is photography, isn't it? Sorry , it is not but the beautiful piece of embroidery which was skillfully done by a Vietnamese women. It was just outstanding.

In Süd und Zentral Vietnam sieht man viele gestickte Bilder in Gallerien und Geschäften. Die Qualität der Arbeiten fällt jedoch sehr unterschiedlich aus. In HOI ANN (Cenral Vietnam)entdeckten wir eine Gallerie, deren Stickbilder das Aussehen von Fotos hatten. Immer wieder bestaunten wir fassungslos die Details , und konnten es kaum glauben, dass diese gestickt waren. Einfach genial.

In South and Central Vietnam hand embroidered pictures are a big thing.The quality varies from place to place but in the small town of Hoi Ann we discovered a Gallery with the best embroidery work that looked very much like a photo. The details were so skillfully done that I had to study it real close . It was stunning.

Diese Fischnetze, bewegt durch den Wind, sind Inspirationen für so manchen Künstler.

Many artist are getting inspired by the fishing nets blowing in the wind.

So sieht es aus, wenn alle Netze im Wasser sind.
