DYEING WITH RUST --- FÄRBEN MIT ROST

This is my 2. piece and I am quite pleased with the outcome .I like the clear lines that I did not achieve in my 1.piece.

Dies ist mein 2. Stück und ich bin ganz zufrieden damit . Es es hat klarere Linien, was ich bei meinem 1. Versuch nicht erreicht habe.

On a plastic sheet I placed rusty nails in between 2 layers of fabric , sprayed water/vinegar solution and salt , covered it with another platic sheet and put this heavy tray on top that you see below. This is all done ouside in my backyard . The hardest thing for me is to be patient and wait 4-5 days.

Auf einem Plastiksack zwischen 2 Stofflagen habe ich diese rostigen Nägel fein säuberlich angeordnet, alles mit Wasser/Essig und Salz besprenkelt und wieder mit Plastik abgedeckt.Das Ganze wurde mit dem großen Tablett( Foto unten)beschwert . Natürlich habe ich das alles draußen gemacht . Das Schlimmste für mich ist dann die Wartezeit, etwa 4-5 Tage.

I highly recommend to wash out the fabric in soap first by hand and remove all rust before you put it into the washer,a precaution for your washer if it is made in stainless steel .

Ich empfehle dringend , den Stoff zuerts in Lauge mit der Hand auszuwaschen und den Rost zu entfernen, bevor man ihn in die Waschmaschine tut. Der rostfreie Stahl der Waschtrommel könnte Schaden erleiden.

DYING with RUST -- FÄRBUNG mit ROST

My first try to use rusty scraps for dying - Mein 1. Versuch mit verrosteten Teilen zu färben

This is pimacotton hand dyed and treated with rust,- Dies ist handgefärbt Baumwolle mit Rost behandelt

I wanted to change this handyed piece with blue spots . First I sprayed some diluted bleach on to the pots- Ich wollte dieses Stück mit den blauen Flecken irgendwie verändern.Dazu besprühte ich zuerst die Flecken mit Haushaltsbleiche

This is not a pot roast- I enclosed different items,wrapped the fabric with wire and placed it in a rusty pan outside, sprayed it with vinegar/water, put some salt on top and cured it for several days. Keep it moist!! I will experiment more of this.

Das ist wahrhaftig kein Braten! Ich habe verschiedene rostige Teile in den Stoff geschlagen , mit Draht umwickelt ,in eine rostige Pfanne gelegt, besprüht mit Wasser/Essig, mit Salz bestreut und ein paar Tage draußen stehen lassen.Feucht halten!Das werde ich noch öfter ausprobieren.
